Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice is centered around a variety of aspects of family issues. She focuses a majority of her work on divorce cases, alimony disputes property distribution in marital relationships and child custody battles. child support arrangements, postnuptial and prenuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement issues, step-parent and private party adoptions as well as concerns regarding child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including trusts, wills and probate and estate administration in addition to commercial contract, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been a mediator appointed by the court since the year 2019. She assists parties to resolve their disputes without the necessity of litigation or court involvement. In addition to mediations that are court-appointed, Ashley also mediates in private cases for those who wish to avoid the litigation and court process.
After having completed her undergraduate studies at Loyola University of Maryland, where she received dual Bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. After graduating in 2013, she excelled academically, securing a spot among the top 10 students in her class. During her time at law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the esteemed Western New England Law Review and demonstrated her dedication to legal scholarship and research.
After completing her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship program, working with prominent jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She had the privilege of working as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. In 2014, she returned home to Hagerstown Maryland to work as an attorney for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. As an associate attorney. Her primary role in the firm was to represent the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters dealing with child welfare. Ashley's devoted efforts contributed greatly to helping children who were victims of neglect or abuse at hands their parents or caregivers. Her commitment to social injustice went beyond her legal profession as she was an active member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force. She worked tirelessly to raise awareness about human trafficking in the tri-state region.
In 2017, she was a founding member at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and developed her expertise in family law, including divorce, custody and child maintenance as well as guardianships – as well as estate and financial planning – wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxy and mediation.
